Wednesday, July 2 at approximately 7:48 am:
E2 was dispatched on a report of
a possible vehicle fire on I-65 northbound.
Due to high traffic volumes E2 requested R1 to respond and provide scene
protection. E2 arrived on scene to find
a sedan with flames visible from the under the hood. Crew members deployed a 1 ¾” hand line for
extinguishment while R1 parked several yards to the south of the incident to block
traffic and provide an area of safe operation.
The hood latch of the vehicle had failed so E2 personnel used a K-12
rotary saw to access the engine compartment.
The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread to the rest of
the vehicle. With all hazards addressed
E2 and R1 turned the scene over to BPD and returned to service.
Wednesday, July 2 at approximately 9:30 am:
E1 was dispatched on a medical
call for injuries from a fall. Initial
dispatch information indicated that the patient had fallen 30 ft off of a
ladder onto the ground. Vanderbilt
Lifeflight was placed on standby due to the high possibility of serious
injury. E1 arrived on scene and
performed a rapid trauma assessment on the patient who was awake and
alert. Spinal immobilization was
initiated due to the patient’s complaints and the significant mechanism of
injury. IV access was established by E1
personnel as EMS arrived on scene. The
patient was moved to the ambulance where BFR personnel assisted with further on
scene care before EMS transported the patient emergency traffic to a local
hospital.
Friday, July 4 at approximately 7:28 pm:
Brentwood Fire and Rescue’s Bike
Team was on standby at the fireworks show at Crocket Park when they were
dispatched to an area behind the amphitheater for a report of a woman going
into labor. The PT was located in the parking lot and advised Bike Team 1 that
her water had broken. A quick discussion with the patient revealed that while
she was in the beginning stages of labor, birth was not imminent. The PT’s
husband transported her to their hospital of choice and Bike Team 1 returned to
standby.
