THE BRENTWOOD FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT TAKES DELIVERY OF NEW FIRE SAFETY HOUSE!

*****PRESS RELEASE*****

CITY OF BRENTWOOD
FIRE AND RESCUE

Subject:          Press Release:  Fire Safety House

THE BRENTWOOD FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT TAKES DELIVERY OF
 NEW FIRE SAFETY HOUSE!

The Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department has taken delivery of a new Fire Safety House (FSH) educational trailer that will be made available for school presentations beginning with this year’s Fire Prevention Month activities in October.

The former fire safety house had consistently been the most popular and highly requested fire prevention/education program we offer.  Since its purchase in 1995, the FSH had been used to conduct over 500 educational events serving nearly 30,000 children and adults across Williamson County.  However, frequent mechanical problems, ongoing electrical issues, and outdated technology forced the department to park the trailer late last year.

In January of 2013, the Brentwood City Commission authorized a grant application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program for the purchase of a new fire safety house.  On June 21, 2013, the fire & rescue department received notification from FEMA that our grant application had been approved at a total project cost of $46,966.00.  The grant was awarded on a 90%-10% basis meaning the total cost to the City came to $4,696.60 while FEMA provided $42,269.40.  Graphics work was provided by Music City Customs in Brentwood.

The unit is custom built with the latest in FSH technology such as warming interior doors to teach children to feel for heat before opening, sprinkler head props, a fireplace prop, and a stove-top cooking fire prop.  This unit also contains unique features for those with disabilities including a bed shaker and special smoke alarm for the hearing and visually impaired.  For the first time ever, an ADA compliant floor plan and integrated wheelchair ramp will provide all-inclusive access to children confined to wheelchairs.

The fire & rescue department is extremely excited about this new training vehicle.  We look forward to providing fire safety and prevention education to tens of thousands more in the years to come.
