Here is an overview of significant events from this period’s activities:

Sunday, June 23 at approximately 5:29 am:

E2, R1 and C3 were dispatched on a report of a possible hazardous materials (Haz Mat) situation.  Initial dispatch information given indicated that a semi had hit a piece of metal on the interstate and was leaking diesel fuel.  Upon arrival BFR units found a semi upright on the shoulder of the interstate.  Personnel made contact with the driver who advised that a piece of metal on the road had ruptured the passenger side saddle tank of the semi.  C3 established command and E2 personnel attempted to stop the leak.  E2 and R1 personnel discovered that a majority of the 210 gallons of diesel fuel had settled into a ditch along the side of the interstate.  Command contacted EMA and requested a Haz Mat clean up team to respond to the scene.  There were no drains or waterways near the leak area and BFR personnel used specialized equipment to ensure the leak area did not expand.  The Haz Mat cleanup team arrived on scene and assisted in further mitigation of the spill.  Once a wrecker was notified to remove the semi from the roadway, command was terminated.  Control of the scene was turned over to BPD and the Haz Mat cleanup team supervisor.  E2, R1 and C3 cleared the scene and returned to quarters.

Monday, June 24 at approximately 2:02 pm:

E1 was dispatched on a report of a dumpster fire.  Initial dispatch information indicated that a dumpster was on fire behind a business.  C1 arrived on the scene and notified E1 that there were no exposures and the fire was confined to the dumpster.  E1 arrived on scene and used a 1-3/4” pre-connected hose line for extinguishment.  E1 personnel extinguished the fire and looked for an ignition source.  Once all hazards had been mitigated E1 and C1 cleared the scene and returned to service.

Monday, June 24 at approximately 11:26 pm:

E3 was dispatched on a report of a commercial fire alarm.  Initial dispatch information indicated that a smoke detector was activated inside a storage room.  E3 arrived on scene and found a commercial structure with no visible hazards.  E3 personnel investigated the structure and found a wire connected to a water heater had shorted out and melted causing the smoke detector to activate.  E3 three personnel shut off all utilities going to the water heater and checked for any other hazards.  The business owner was informed of the situation and advised that they should contact an electrician to repair the wiring as soon as possible.  Once E3 personnel ensured there were no further hazards, E3 returned to service and quarters.
