FULL SCALE ACTIVE SHOOTER EXERCISE TO BE HELD
AT RAVENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL


Brentwood – The Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department and Brentwood Police Department in cooperation with the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency and Williamson Medical Center Emergency Medical Services (WEMS) will facilitate a full-scale active shooter exercise at Ravenwood High School on Tuesday July 2nd, 2013.

Captain Russ Peterson, Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Brentwood, states “The purpose of this exercise is to test and evaluate the operational capabilities of cooperating agencies to manage an active shooter incident.  We will be assessing performance in several areas including unified command, interoperable communications, threat mitigation, and the management of mass casualties.”

Registration for participants will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a training and briefing session.  The full scale exercise will commence at 1:30 p.m. and conclude with a post-incident review at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The exercise will initiate on the Ravenwood campus and extend off-site as all segments of incident response are assessed.  The incident will begin with the initial 911 call and expand to include the coordination of responders, mitigation of the threat, treatment and transport of patients, and preparation and triage in the emergency room at Williamson Medical Center.

Over one hundred participants are expected to take part including volunteers from Hands On Nashville who will act as school students and staff members.  Representatives from the following participating and/or observing agencies will be on site:

·         Federal Bureau of Investigation
·         Franklin Fire Department
·         Franklin Police Department
·         Regional Medical Coordination Center (off-site)
·         Tennessee Bomb and Arson
·         Williamson County Sheriff’s Department
·         US Secret Service
·         Vanderbilt LifeFlight
·         Williamson EMS
·         Williamson Medical Center – ER (off-site)

The Exercise Director is Lieutenant Alan Hardcastle of the Brentwood Police Department.  There will be a media coordinating/staging area provided with an opportunity to view and photograph or videotape limited segments of the exercise.  Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss and Brentwood Assistant Police Chief Tommy Walsh will act as joint Public Information Officers and be the point of contact for the media regarding this event.
