BRENTWOOD FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT’S NEW MINI PUMPER ALREADY PAYING BIG DIVIDENDS

At approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning, the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to a reported train fire on the CSX tracks adjacent to Wilson Pike near Oak Hall.  Several 911 calls were received reporting flames coming from a locomotive.  Engine 2 was dispatched from the Wilson Pike Station and, upon arrival, requested the assistance of Engine 4 and Engine 11; Brentwood’s new mini pumper.  Crews reported a fire inside the third locomotive on the southbound train which was hauling over 100 cars loaded with coal.  Engine 11 was able to travel across a field near Oakhall Drive and Raintree Parkway to gain access to the train.  Utilizing the on-board foam system, the fire was quickly extinguished.

Without the new mini-pumper, this process would have been much more labor intensive as a full-sized pumper could and would not have navigated across the field.  According to the train engineer on scene, the locomotive is valued at approximately $2.5 million dollars.

No additional loss was reported to the train or payload as the fire never extended beyond the one locomotive.  No one on the scene was injured.
