On Saturday October 13th,
Brentwood Fire and Rescue hosted its second annual Public Safety Day.
Approximately 500 people attended the event in the Kroger parking lot with 250
more visiting the 4 local fire stations. Family fun and great weather
kept kids and parents busy. This year for the first time over 16 vehicles
had their child car seats inspected by certified technicians. Over half
of the car seats inspected were found to have been installed incorrectly and
were fixed on site.
There were 3 demonstrations performed throughout the day. A live vehicle
extrication, live sprinkler demonstration, and a narcotics search performed by
Brentwood Police Department's K9.
Every hour, free CPR classes were given
by Williamson Medical Center staff on hand. The biggest hit of the day
was a spray prop built by BFR's very own Engineer Ritchie. Children could
spray real water on a fake house fire. After extinguishing the fire,
children could take their turn posing as a real firefighter in a new life size
picture cutout. All in all, the event helped raise awareness of all the
services and capabilities each agency provides on a daily basis.
Preparations are already underway for next year's event. Look for more kids
activities, food, and further demonstrations.
